Hi guys,

We have a 26KG frameless mirror to go above our fireplace mantel. It comes with those triangular eye hook things in the mirror (2/3 of the way up on either sides) so that is sorted.

However, how should we hang it? It will be about 2 inches off the mantel, so not resting. I was thinking some good heavy wire rope and 2 long screws in wallplugs in the wall. The chimney breast is of brick and plastered & painted over.

Does this sound sufficient or is there something better?? We don't want it falling down!!

This might seem a bit overkill but perhaps when you've mounted those triangle things ready to house and fir the mirror in, put a dab of no more nails behind the mirror to make it steady and stop it from wobbling, to fit it on the wall.
This might be an idea if:
- You plan on moving the mirror soon as it'll mean redecorating the no more nailed patch
- You've got wallpaper as if the mirror does want to move it'll rip the wallpaper of so it may be a good idea to strip a bit of paper of first, no more nails the mofo and stick it on

Don't know if that helped :)

is it gona be permanent?

If so you could maby god for some uni-bond kinda stuff aswell to help it stick to the wall?

Edit: beating to it.

No more nails clearly states "NOT TO BE USED FOR HANGING MIRRORS".

Now I used it to hang a <1kg mirror in the hall, but for a 26kg mirror... well I wouldn't trust it to hold that!

No more nails to hang a 26kg mirror!!! are you lot mad, hehe. We have a pretty big one from ikea, its massive and weighs a ton, its only held up by 2 small fittings and they do the job. Problem with the wire option is it tends to make the mirror hand forwards a bit at the top. Would look much better flush, can you not get some sort of 2 piece metal hook job (one on each side) and do it like that and not use the wire option.

Your local diy store has charts on which rawl plugs to buy for certain weights. 26kg isn't that bad really there's more weight than that in my kitchen cupboards and they are into plasterboard. The weight is hanging straight down so as long as you drill the hole at the correct size for the plug it will be fine.
