Got a Saphire 5970 which is great in game however I'm having random freezes/grey screen reset/driver recovered things while at desktop or browsing the web.

I've read that increasing the clock settings for 2D solves the problem but I can't figure out how to do it.. I've looked in the overdrive setting on the CCC but there are now 2D settings... I read there was a "AMD GPU Clock Tool" but when I downloaded it, it says no devices found.. maybe I had the wronf version..

Can anyone give me an idiots guide to increasing the clock for 2D setting or any other info regarding this problem ?

Thanks

anyone able to give any hints? I'd like to try it instead of sending card back tomorrow :(

Thanks, I'm pretty sure it's related.. I don't have any problems in games... can leave them running for hours and hours... the problem occurs only out of games, on desktop idle or browsing the net etc.

I want to increase the clock speed in 2D, just can't figure out how to do it :(

Hi Guys.

Im also getting this problem in 2D browsing web, fine in 3D. Notice my clocks were 157/300Mhz while on desktop.

I upped as per this guide http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=260&threadid=122942

And it now seems to be fine. (Although higher temps).

Anyone know what is an ideal 2D clock speed that I should set? (157 to low) - (400 temp rises to 50 degrees) whats good inbetween?

The link above was the guide I followed.. last night it seemed fine..

Originally I had intended to increase to 300, but just went with the info in the links.. if the above works that's will be fine for me at the moment, hopefully the next drivers will have a fix or something anyway.

I'll check temps tonight but don't think they were anything to worry about. Hopefully someone else can confirm acceptable temps, but 50 would sound ok to me, although I recall mine being around 43-45
