Totally baffled so could do with some assistance. I have two 500 gig HDs installed on my PC simply as two HDs, not RAID or anything. On one HD which is the original and is the C: drive I have Windows 7 single volume plus the recovery partition (on which resides manufacturers Vista install and software). The second 500 gig drive is portioned as follows – 300 gig for backup storage and a 200 gig partition on which resides Ubuntu Hardy Heron. I then dual boot with the two OS’s.
Now my problem – I would like to upgrade to Karmic Kaola and have already made the DVD which works as live DVD and appears fine. How on earth do I install Karmic on the drive where Hardy Heron resides at present? Each time I load the DVD I only get what appears to be the option to partition my Windows volume – the second drive doesn’t appear in the setup. I did move to advanced which gave me more options and what appeared to be the second drive but not sure how to select or what to select and I’m terrified of wiping out my 300 gig of backups
I’m sure installing Hardy Heron was a breeze so not impressed so far.

do a "sudo fdisk -l"

it should be really obvious which partition is the ubuntu one cos it will probably be ext3. Write down the device name and use that partition in the advanced installer.
