Did that. un-tar'ed the files onto desktop - c&p into folder - ran script - no joy
Edit: changed permissions - still no joy (same as below)

stephen@lemonman:~/foldingathome$ ./folding start

['folding' ver. 5.4]

Starting up FAH client(s) on 2 processor(s):
Starting FAH client at CPU1...
FAH client #1 startup: OK

Starting of FAH client(s): FAILURE

Edit2: both the file are in the foldingathome folder (with links in the cup1 folder)

Whoa there. You're getting right client, but your system seems to think the date is after the 1st July 2007.

I'd check your system date if I were you ;)

just got that myself - doh! didn't expect the date to jump 2 years
But thanks uncle - any idea why i couldn't get it to work with the direct download?

Ok all up and running BUT

With finstall I could turn the service on and off with start and stop.
but I'm stuck with a terminal now - which if i close I stop smp client :(

If this is an offical client stop then fine - if not?
Any way of making it a service again or even on and Off batch file would do.
off to check the sticky but some assistance would be nice.

If you did it manually I have no idea how you make it a service. I have seen a millions guides and none seem to work :p

Thanks a bunch SB :p
Now I know (8 improper shutdowns so far) I'm just shuting down the VMware window and it merrily crunchs away in the background :D

Edit: on that note - anyone know how to give the DVD drive back to windows. If i load a disk windows shows nothing (but it's their in Ubuntu) close down ubuntu and alls well in windows again.
