How to install updates, but without shutdown?

Hi, I want to install updates, but select the ones to install. Not install them all in one go on shutdown, how can I do this ?

It has downloaded them all I believe, hence saying it wants to install them on shutdown.... please help. In need!

Also theres no "windows update" icon in my tray...

I presume you are talking about Vista. Select Windows Update in Control panel and it gives you the option to change settings, such as how and when to install updates.
