How to insulate a shipping container?

I would insulate it wth Albanians, shipping containers often come with a free pack of them

This could be the start of something big. You could leave them in there and it would sort out some of the problems councils have with housing asylum seekers and immigrants.

Please keep your racist crap for other threads, thank you. Oh and you could read the thread before posting too, save cluttering it up... ;)

Thank you for the mini guide again Jingo, It's a homebrew project for now as just something to dream about/draw up in sketchup, but no stop into looking how it'll 'work' inside, hence the queries!

Kitchen/bathroom fans are standard fitment really, not going to be scrimping, and a family of 6 sees enough doors/windows being opened during the day for air changes, if I get flash there will be the whole heat pump air recovery thing going on too, but even our oldish windows at my folks place have a small vent on the top you can adjust separate to opening the window for constant ventilation. Building outside of UK regs would make things easier, but being a stiff Brit there is nothing wrong with following most of them, they make sense!

i really think you need to go stand in a shipping container in the summer

the heat is outrageous , guys at work pass out in them and a mate severly burnt his arm after accidentally touching the sides

air con is going to cost your big and the air inside will be pretty horrid because of its constant use

even today in march with just a bit of sun they are getting sauna like

the prices are just going to rise and rise too along with the prices of scrap

why not go wood ?

Indeed I had to go into one of ours today at work and while its unseasonably warm (20.6C in the sun) its not blistering hot... and it was like walking into something solid - I can quite see people realistically passing out if they had to spend any time in one during a proper summer day.

Watch doomsday preppers on natgeo, a family in texas or somewhere like that built a defensive home/compound out of them.

Hi

How have you progressed with this idea of a container home as I to wish to build similar but probably in Spain. How has the insulating concept progressed? I have order a book Quik Build by Adam Kalkin 'The ABC of container architecture' he is apparently the leading architect in this sort of build.

You need 400mm of loft insulation to achieve a similar insulative value as 140mm solid Kingspan kooltherm K3. Your biggest problem would be condensation and rust, they are only painted mild steel.

You could insulate over the top for the roof to save head height.

I'd assume so - tho it would be quite selective on whereabout it was i.e. you almost definitely wouldn't get it on your average town street.
