Im Lost
Hi people,
I have got a rather large scalextric collection worth a few hundred pound worth. I used to keep it at my stepdads but he has now moved house and now there is nowhere for the collection to be untill our scalextric room is built

So Im bringing them home. Im going to buy some shelfs tomorrow but I think I should get my collection insured. As some of my collection is worth £150 each.

Does anyone know anything about insuring a collection?

We have an Endsleigh (or whatever its called) insurance broker next to my house, find one and go talk to them.

Insurance companies only tend to be interested (read worried) about collections of coins, stamps etc. For anything else their opinion is usually if the collection can be rebuilt from single items under their named item limit then it's just more stuff in the house.

Best bet however, call whoever your current contents cover is with and get their opinion.

Most standard home insurance poicies have a £1000 or £1,500 limit on individual items and then a limit for the household. If you have home cover, the collection would fall under it. As long as your not talking thousands, it should be easily covered under existing insurance if you have it.

Insuring specific items is usually very expensive, due to the administration involved.

Got any pics ?

Ive never really thought about insurance on collections and such like in the past tbh.

We have a train set in the actic. It goes all the way round. Custom built bench and track layout. No where finished yet, but we have about £500 worth of Loco's and carriages / rolling stock, never mind the amount of track we have got.

I think that the house insurance covers it though.

I have a large collection models and for insurance purposes I was asked by the insures to catalogue all items with pictures and details e.g. approx price etc.
And then send them a copy of photos on CD.

This was included with the normal contents insurance but just need proof that I owned them.
