Hi

Got 2 machines being used for internet access wirelessly in a Gym, and the main database machine also on wireless.

How do I lock or stop people getting from the Internet machines onto database machine.

Cheers

Nigel

Are they all connected to a wireless router? What operating system is running on each? Does the database machine require internet/network access?

They are all connected to a wireless router.

All running Windows XP with avg and malware software.

The database machine requires access to the Internet for the direct debit side, which we logon to a secure site provided by the direct debit company.

Cheers

What firewall are you running on the machines? Configure it to block access from anything other than the gateway.

If you want to, create 2 VLANs - one for the database server and one for the standalone PCs, making sure that each can see the access point but not each other.

Read the following guide on how to lock down a Windows XP machine - http://www.nsa.gov/ia/_files/os/winxp/Windows_XP_Security_Guide_v2.2.zip

some routers have a wireless isolation mode, (check box in the wifi security settings on router)

This stops any computers from seeing each other, and only have access to the internet

fliP.

Just been reading about steady state and deep freeze. A good one to remember -

'The BIOS should be configured to prevent booting from the floppy drive (i.e. set to boot from the hard drive) and the BIOS must be password protected. This is a normal precaution for most public access computers.'

Dont want people booting off USB sticks and doing what they want
