How to make a movie from still images (PNG)

Trying to model electromagnetic wave interactions using a specialist program (MEEP) in C++, I have got it to output a load of time stamped images but I want to make them into a movie, how can I do this simply and easily?

ffmpeg lets you extract video frames to .png so I would have thought it will let do the reverse (as in your case).

Paint shop pro used to have an app call animation shop with it that let you make GIFS etc from stills.
guessing theres a plugin for gimp maybe?
maybe doom9 will have the answer!
