How to make a text border?

In Photoshop or Fireworks, how is it possible to add a border that will follow the form of a text? I mean like the white border that goes around skype's and twitter's logos

Yeah: Right-click on Layer thumbnail -> Blending Options... -> Stroke for all your outlining needs.

Photoshop-wise, anyway.
