Right guys, trying to educate a lesser form of human.

She has no idea how leather works, anyone know of any good links with pics on how a cow is transformed into leather.

Start to finish.

This all started when I mentioned my gloves were kangaroo leather and the comment I got back was "Aren't kangaroo's fluffy?"

Making leather is easy.

Take one (or more, depending how much you need) retired Brit, with an aversion to high strength sun blocks and send them to live in Spain for 3 years. You should have a decent amount of leather upon their return. Slow process but doesn't require much effort on your part.

For a 'slow baked' leather, select your candidate around the age of 50 and begin them holidaying in Lanzarote (or similar destination) until they are around 70 to 75. This will produce a slower matured leather that may be preferable in some usages.

well i doubt it was ever intended to be a how to guide, i don't think many people, A have a spare cow lying around just to peel it like a banana and make leather from it, and B wouldn't want to peel a cow due to the resulting bits and pieces that would fall out and make a right mess on your carpet or other flooring medium
