I was thinking about getting a Scythe Ninja heatsink and using it without a fan because I don't overclock, then I realised my PC goes nuts if the CPU fan is not connected - i.e. lots of beeping and not booting. How would I get around this problem?

My motherboard is an Abit AX8.

Is there anything I can do in the bios?

Couldn't you plug you PSU sensor lead or a case fan into the CPU fan header on the board? They board would be happy as its got a fan plugged in and should sort your problem:)

Edit: bah beaten to it... thats what I get for leaving pages open for ages without refreshing them!

I have an Abit AX8 with watercooling, so obviously no CPU fan. Its fine, didn't need to disable anything, It just reads 0RPM.

Is yours the v2.0?

I have a V2 all you have to do is make sure you dont have the shutdown enabled on no cpu fan speed. Temperorily put in a fan just to get the bios booting.
