How To Make Sure Crossfire Is Working?

Nice UP

Last Question : One slot is 16X the other is 8X, I believe it drops to 8X but doesn't affect performance that much right?

Both cards attached, unable to launch Catalyst Control Panel.. Cannot be started :(

Will try a driver reinstall

- Crossfire is now enabled, CCC is working :)

Ok one strange thing, why the volts so different between the two cards including temps?

GPU 1 - 1.235 volts 80C MAX Heaven
GPU 2 - 1.133-1.188 volts 69 MAX Heaven

Added a side fan, 12C drop! :D

Heck of a temp drop Neil, what case btw? Considering cutting a hole in the window of my case for a fan, as my top card gets quite hot.

Bitfenix, although it's a bit tight for all these cables now even with my wiring job!

Oh well, will have to do

Ok so I'm quite new to crossfire and seem to have stumbled across an issue with my 7970 crossfire setup.
So I have 2 monitors a primary running at 1440p and a secondary small old low res thing I use for keeping browser windows/ YouTube etc open while gaming.
So I have been testing my crossfire setup on the tomb raider benchmark and there is a setting ticked to run exclusive full screen.
Sometimes when I load up the bench the second monitor goes black and I get the performance I expect from the crossfire setup but other times the second monitor stays active and the browser etc stays viewable but I get a substantial decrease in performance from my crossfire setup?
I always leave the tick in the full screen exclusivity box so not sure why this is.
So what I'm worried about now is whenever I'm gaming with the secondary monitor active I'm not getting full crossfire performance even tho the games are set to full screen on the primary monitor?
Can anyone advise on this matter?
Regards

When you're running YouTube or the webpage you're viewing runs video adverts, you'll often find your GPU increases clock speeds slightly to run this smoothly. I am wondering if the presence of videos on your second screen is causing your GPUs to go into "YouTube speed" rather than full "3D gaming speed"?

Try running it with your second screen active but nothing other than the game running (you might have to Alt+Tab out of the game and back in if the second screen goes black at game startup, I used to have to do this sometimes). You should find the game runs at full speed. Then try it again with YouTube (or whatever) running on the second screen and see if the game still runs at full speed. I would use Afterburner or CCC's Overdrive tab on the second screen to see what your clocks are doing.

If it is the browser that is confusing your GPUs, either don't run the browser while you're gaming, or turn off Hardware GPU Acceleration in your browser's settings.

Let us know how you get on. Good luck. :)

Turn off Hardware Acceleration for the browser and turn off Hardware Acceleration for videos which you need to have the youtube video playing and then right click on the video and choose settings and disable hardware Acceleration.
