How to manually configure memory?

I just upgraded my motherboard to a DS3 and installed this memory: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL

Apparently the speed of this memory is set low by default and you have to unlock the proper speed manually? I don't know much about it but I can't find where to do this in the bios (I have version F10).

I have no idea whether the memory is running at full or crippled speed at the moment. Is there a handy tool which can tell me?

Any advice welcome,

Thanks! :)

EDIT: Running Vista Home Premium btw

When you go into the BIOS, press CTRL + F1 and it will reveal all the memory settings in the CPU setup screen.

I have just got that MOBO too, works very nicely and is a good overclocker.

Hope this helps

ooo same ram as me.

ok enter bios then look for chipset features etc, then change the ram timings Etc using the options in there and the dividers :)

Thanks :) I'm sure nothing happened when I pressed ctrl+f1 but I'll try again!

It's taken all day to get my baby back up and running after installing new mobo, cpu (6400) memory, gfx, fresh Vista & NEC 20WGX2! My eyes must be going square!

Haha, i know the feeling, can be a right pain getting everything back to normal after a big upgrade.

You gonna be doin any overclocking at all, or just running at stock with tight timings?

No overclocking yet - I'm just soaking up the speed boost since replacing my P4 3.06/512MB RAM!! Vista is so smooth!

From what I've heard though the C2Ds o/c really well so I'll probably be tempted soon enough...

Hmmm... The only option I have in the bios is to change the memory multiplier. I can't specify the individual 4-4-4-12 timings. Is this normal? I've seen screenshots that prove this is possible.

I pressed ctrl+f1 but nothing happened! Any ideas?

ctrl+f1? never heard of that command, but yet again i dont have ** motherboard i dont think (i havent check ** sig yet).

but btw the geil ram, to run at 800MHZddr2 (400mhz) with 4-4-4-12 timings you need to higher the ram voltage, (which iv not done, no need to)

its plenty fast enough on what i have it on now. i run it at 416mhz at 5-5-5-18.

iv had it at 460mhz at 5-5-5-18 btw, 416 meaning 832mhz in ddr, ETC

:) hope it helps

Ah ctrl+f1 is now working for some reason. I changed the timings in the bios and CPU-Z is now telling me;

Frequency: 300.0 MHz
FSB: DRAM: 2:3
CAS# Latency: 4.0 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay: 4 clocks
RAS# Precharge 4 clocks
Cycle Time (Tras): 12 clocks

Is this correct? Where the hell does that 300.0MHz come from?

Your timings are fine.

But change the memory multiplier to x3 to get the Geil running at 800mhz.

No it still said 300MHz. I just upped the multiplier to 4.0+ and now CPU-Z says 400MHz. Is that ok or is something going to die?

Odd. Is the fsb at 266mhz?

At 266mhz, and the x3 memory multiplier, your RAM should be at 800mhz.

On the CPU tab in CPU-Z it says;

Clocks (Core#0)

Core Speed: 1200.0 MHz
Multiplier: x 6.0
Bus Speed: 200.0 MHz
Rated FSB: 800.0 MHz

Is the Bus Speed incorrect?

Nope.

I'm guessing that you have Speedstep enabled as your multiplier is at x6.

Tho your fsb (BUS Speed) should definitely be 266. Set it manually, remembering to lower the memory multiplier to x3 first.

You currently have SpeedStep enabled.

It's a power-saving feature that drops the multiplier down to x6 when full power isn't needed and raises it to x8 when it is.

If you wish to disable it, disable CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) and CPU EIST Function in your BIOS.
