How to open programs on dual monitors?

I have connected 2 monitors to my pc, i can drag items and shortcuts etc onto the other monitor fine but how do i open open programs on separate monitors, they all just open on the primary monitor i want to be able to open programs on either one but not sure how to do it. This is for an old xp machine.

Do you mean full screen programmes or in windows? If it's in a window just drag it across. it's been a while since I've used an XP machine but there are programs out there that can let you assign programmes to a certain monitor.
