Ok first off i'm a complete beginner with overclocking so if your able to help me please use step by step instructions that a new born baby could understand
.
All i want to do is overclock my cpu from 2.66ghz to between 2.8ghz - 3.0ghz (preferrably 3.0ghz). I want to to this so i can watch 1080p mkv files without it stuttering every now & again as it currently does (been watching 720p mkv files lately to avoid the stuttering). As from what i've read 2.8ghz is the recommended minimum for perfect 1080p playback.
I have the following hardware:
1. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz S775
2. Asustek S775 GeForce 680i ATX GLAN
3. Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-8500C5D 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-8500
I don't want to have to upgrade my cooling fans, I just want to overclock enough to watch the mkv files but not so much that it may cause heat issues.
From what i've read (but having trouble understanding as i'm a beginner), I need to increase the FSB in small amounts & then test for stability.
I'm hoping someone hear can give me a step by step guide on how to do this safely ?
