How would I go about spray painting a case black? I have a case here that is bare metal on the inside and an ugly grey colour on the outside. I want to change the colour to black but Im assuming it isn't going to be as simple as just whipping out a can of spray paint.

So how would I go about spray painting the case?

A google search on the subject only brings up information on how to get a mirror finish which isn't what I'm after. I just want to respray it a bog standard black such as is on my Xigmatek Asgard case.

i would be interested in this to,
i always assumed it would just be a case os sand down and rough up with scotch pad.
clean with pre-paint and tac cloth
prime
flatt down
paint
laqure if required

so if thats wrong i would like to know

also as most cases are metal could they be powder coated

As you say, getting a mirror finish can be a right pain.

For a basic recolour though.
Sand it down lightly.
Prime with black or grey primer
I'd probably sand out any runs etc.. if you had any issues here
Paint
Maybe a very fine sand, but probably wouldn't bother
Lacquer for protection.

Won't be the greatest quality, but it'll do.

You could indeed get it powder coated as above, but this will probably cost you a bit of money. There are sites that will powder coat cases if all metal for around £100. Bigger sizes obviously cost more.

Mirror finish requires much much more sanding down, and many more painting layers.

I had a CM690 powder coated a few years back, far superior finish to any spray paint job, less likely to chip.

Wasn't that expensive, when you worked out the diy cost of stripping it, cost of primer, undercoat, topcoat, etc yourself. Can't post the link to it, otherwise I will get the wrath of a mod.:(

OcUK don't offer spray painting so I'm guessing if you posted the link you wouldn't be advertising a competitor.

IIRC I seen somewhere you can post links to products as long as they aren't anything relating to OcUK's core business products.

if its aluminium then buy some acid etch primer, then spray your black paint ontop,if steel then ordinary grey primer will do

Yes whilst OcUK may not offer that product, they have a large overlap of other products they do, hence its classed as a competitor

Valkynaz: I've sent you a message via Trust.

There are several good companies I've use in Somerset who do powder coating.
