How to permanently set VLC to play all video files?

That sets it for an individual file but not globally.

Find a quicktime file and control click it. Select get info, where it says open with change that to VLC and then click change all

It doesnt.
I did mine that way and VLC is now my default player for everything.
Didn't work for me.
