How to polish the metal body of an old Rangefinder?

I wouldn't polish it. They're supposed to be a nice satin finish.

Personally it if is a little grubby, I would give it a wipe with something non-abrasive dipped in de-natured alcohol - use sparingly since you don't want it to seep into all the nooks and crannies - it should lift off any grime/grease from the bodywork.

I would then use something like a wooden toothpick to work around all the little knurled knobs and around switches etc. to work out any dirt and use a blower to get rid of the debris. A small paintbrush works wonders as well.
