How to record game - desktop - game?

I'm trying to make a video where I show a few seconds of a game, then minimise the game to desktop, then maximise game again to show something has changed in the game, and I need the video to show all this, but fraps doesn't seem to do that. With fraps recording the game, without stopping the recording and then minimising it to show my desktop, when I play the video back, it just shows the game recording paused then restarting once I've maximised it again. Is there a way to do it?

No idea if it can do games though.

Thanks, the quick tutorial video looks promising, I'm gonna download the free trial and give it a whirl. I hope it can be saved in a format I can upload to youtube. I'm sure it can though.

It wasn't that hard to get on to youtube last time I used it so you shouldn't have any issues.

Damn. It records desktop fine, and it records game sound fine when I maximise the game, but the game comes up as just a black box on the left side of the desktop.

Might try Jing.

Sod it, I ended up just doing a fraps video without the desktop bit.

Camtasia and Hypercam are really meant for desktop and windowed modes. They really don't do well with DirectX surfaces.

If you have windows 7 you can set fraps to record the desktop. There is an option in fraps to monitor Aero desktop (AWM), just make sure aero is enabled in windows.
