Hi,

Probably a stupid question but here goes :

Just installed Win7 HP 64bit but its gone over my old Vista HP. I want to do a total clean install but of course i cant do this as i only have a single drive which is not partitioned.

I dont want to have to create a new partition and then format my old C Partition is there anyway i can just format the damn thing?

I used to have a floppy win98 disc which i'd use to go into to format but i've lost it.

HELP MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

Maybe I'm missing something but when you install Win7 you can do a clean install and format your drive as an option, rather than choosing upgrade.

Tried all the above, when i insert Win 7 DVD it says upgrade or custom install which then says where would i like to install too, my only option being c drive so all it does then is install win 7 and keeps all my vista stuff which is what i tried originally.

When i select book from DVD drive it just goes to desktop and then into install options.

So annoying.

Any more ideas?

Choose custom install, it will then give you a screen with your drives.

Pick the drive you want and down on the bottom right there will be a "Drive Options (Advanced)" option.

Hit that and you will now be able to format the drive and do a clean install ;)

Once you have reached the "Where do you want to install Windows" screen, click on the partition which currently has Windows 7 installed, click on the "Drive options (advanced)" on the right hand side near to the bottom and you will be able to choose to either format the partition or delete it entirely. Click on the "Format" option and then "Next".

Venares, I have removed your two images since you were hotlinking them. In future, please save the image and then upload it to a hosting website like Photobucket, Imageshack, TinyPic or another website which allows you to host your own images.

Sorry to jump in on someone else's thread but that information was just what I needed,I wanted to format my main hard drive and install Window 7 64 bit.I was running XP 32,,,could'nt do that so installed Windows 7 32 bit,,which I must admit runs like a dream but does not use all of my 4gb memory.Just one question if I may,,how much ram can you use with Window 7 64 bit? I have 4gb ram ,Q6600 on a P5Q motherboard. Thanks for the help guys.

It differs with each version:

Starter: 8GB
Home Basic: 8GB
Home Premium: 16GB
Professional: 192GB
Enterprise: 192GB
Ultimate: 192GB

Another jump in - on that second screenshot, can I select partition sizes by clicking 'new' then typing the desired partition size? It's a brand new HDD...

...opps, stand down, sorted it!

Guys i know about the advanced options technique but i have one problem. When i select my C drive on the screen i dont have an advanced drives option to select. It's just not there!!!
