Not sure if anyone can help but here goes,

I bought my mum a new car cd player for xmas as the standard one in her car is knackered and barely plays anything nowadays. The car is an R reg Peugeot 106 Look and the cd player is made by Clarion, I can get the exact model number if that's helpful?

Although I'm fairly confident I can fit the new one, I can't for the life of me get the old one out, I've got the front plastic bits off and I'm down to the metal cd player, but it just doesn't want to budge. Anyone able to advise? Do I need to disconnect any cables or anything?

Oh also, do you need to wear gloves when disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery?

Cheers,
Felix

It probably came with two metal levers that you slide down either side, you should then be able to pull the stereo out.

If you don't have the levers that came with it the ones that come with the new stereo will probably do it, or a cupple of old knives (table knives, not sharp ones) might do the trick.

The last few car stereos I've done I havn't bothered disconnecting the battery at all. You don't need gloves to disconnect the negative terminal. The main thing is if you have to use something like a spanner of a ratchet to loosen the terminal make sure yo don't let the other end trouch the possitive terminal.

1. You shouldn't need to disconnect the battery.
2. You'll require some removal tools to be able to remove the current stereo from the cage. You might be able to use the ones that come with the new stereo though.

If you push the metal removal tools down each side you should be able to pull it out, I'm sure others will recommend other alternative methods. Once the stereo is out you just can bend the cage it was sitting in and can begin installing the new stereo :)

Brute force can sometimes work but be careful not too damage the dash ;)

To remove the one in my old 306, and indeed the old one in my 205 I just stuck my fingers in the tape tray, grabbed hold and pulled. :D Brute force is best. :p

If you don't want to damage yourself or the car, then try the knife approach. :)

Thanks for the replies guys, I will have another go at it soon!

Just to be very clear, can I see the cage in the picture I posted? So basically am I putting the knife or whatever down the side between the metal and the plastic or between metal and metal like where those sticky out bits are?

apologies for my ignorance!

Personally I think you need those u shaped wires and hook them in the areas that I circled in red

You can bodge it with a knife or a bent bit of metal, but if you ask around your mates, I would have thought someone would have had a set (mine came free with a stereo), otherwise you can find them for around £3 inc on ebay (don't pay more than that, there are people asking £15 for them there)

What you are trying to do is push in some spring bound bits of metal that are holding your stereo in, if you push them in, your stereo will slide out.
