How to REMOVE Rain-X from a Windscreen

Isn't the whole point of rain x not to use your wipers? :p

And that is why it is flawed. It barely works at low speed, so you have to use your wipers or risk rear ending someone.

It pretty good on the motorway, but anything else, bah.

I still use some on the side windows though...

What do you call low speed? 5-10mph or 30ish? I remember waxing my windscreen once, the rain ran off even when stationary :D But then i forgot and used the wipers and was greeted by a large smeary mess.

I've been in a car with rain x on doing 70ish and it worked freakishly well, very strange driving in the rain with a clear windscreen and no wipers on.

Wax on windscreens is a nightmare, which is why I think the "Wash and wax" shampoos are inherently flawed.

Looks like I'm making my windscreen small vinegary. I tried cleaning the wipers as well. THis better not be them ****ed because of the Rain-X, i only put them on yesterday!

I often Rain-X side windows and mirrors, but it doesn't last long enough on the screen for my liking.

Acetone will do the trick. Not Acetone with any sort of oil or perfume in it though, just pure Acetone. You can pick it up in a chemist quite easily.

One of those green pads for washing dishes and washing up liquid is a good shout too, but Acetone is a suggestion you can take to the bank mister!!! :)

Edited my post - didn't actually mean Brillo pad, meant one of those green dish washing pads. Most folk will have the intelligence to realise not to use an actual brillo pad I would like to think??!!:)

Isn't acetone nail polish remover ?

Just in case you can't find it, try looking for un perfumed cheap nail polish remover. Same stuff

You need to be careful though as even unperfumed nail polish remover will almost certainly contain oils whereas pure acetone is exactly that and contains no additives.

Right, I'm going to go wild and attack my windscreen tonight. That **** has to come off! Was pretty much blind this morning driving to work!

Order of attack...

Vingear and Newspaper

Window/Glass Cleaner

Some of this -

it can also be used to effectively remove rain repellent glass treatments without scratching the surface.

Although it is abrasive so I need to be careful.

Sandpaper

Hammer

Is it just when the screen is still cold and clears up afterwards? If so that is normal and you need to get the screen warm so stop the condensation on the outside. PITA sometimes but I like the stuff.

The problem with this is that RainX on side windows leaves streaks and Vaseline like residue when you open the windows Now some people will say "why do you need to open the window in the rain" - That's not the point, if it's a bit damp inside the door then the RainX gets smeared.

I've found absolutely no point in RainX on a car really. The rear window maybe but depends on the car, no point again if your car has decent aerodynamics because the wind takes care of rain on the read window anyway.

This is why I always post negative about such products!

Edit*
RainX doesn't last long, just use the wipers for a few drives and the product will be gone.

I use it on the side and rear windows - never experienced any smearing.

I use it on the windscreen and it doesn't smear - the only problem I had was when I applied two coats, and the wipers started juddering. I think it needs to be applied quite sparingly to get the best results.
