How to remove the dust from PC?

Hi guys,

I used to buy compressed air in air cans, but it cost nearly 10GBP per can.
I bought a small compressor for inflating car tyres, but it was barley blowing an air out.

What do you use?

Could this do the job? Now I'm not talking about ESD (electrostatic discharge) risk, I'm just interested, it this would be able to blow the air off.

Any experience with air pumps?

Do you think this would do the job?

Thanks ;)

We use a electric vehicle tire pump at work which is great in short bursts, but unless you already have one they are a little expensive and remember your dust mask (doesn't matter how little there is with the preasure it comes out at)

Well... vacuum cleaner can't get everywhere... I would say, that pressure would be better, that actually a sucking function. Do you use any special nozzle for the vacuum cleaner?

Gash, that's the thing... It blows 340 liters or air in a minute, but I can't imagine the pressure applied...

I see buying pressure cans being quite "money wasting", it's not effective, if you know what I mean...
A compressor, which would do the same pressure, costing about 40 pounds would be great investment.

Air pump about £10, use one my self now, but before l use it l give everything a dust of with a 2" paint brush make's a far better job. As l have 3 PC's in the house + friends, pay's for it self in no time.

In an ideal world there would be no dust but it's not ideal so I just use vacuum and small brush. Hold the vacuum nozzle close to where you brushing and brush the dust off stuff.

this sounds like good idea. But still things such as power supply...

OLDPHART, do you have a part number (model number, anything) for your air pump? Is it electric one for 220v?

Thanks guys

Use a similar air pump myself from a high street store. (It's the same sort of pool/bed inflation type)

Works just fine :)

Much the same as OLDPHART, i just take the side panels off, lug my rigs outside and job done in 10 minutes tops.

If you would have to compare it to a hairdryer, how many times stronger it is?

Dragonuk, do you find the hairdryer strong enough to clean PSU? I never tried this, it may be worth to try...

I bought a pack of three decorating brushes in slight different widths, and also just use the hair attachment on the dyson.

Prevention is the best cure, as they say.

Just get some good dust filters, they make so much difference.

I have three of these (2 x 140 + 1 x 120) - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-086-OK

They let nothing in at all.

I went to dust my rig out last weekend after six months or so and my room does get quite dusty.

There was hardly any more dust inside than when I cleaned it out last time.

I just use a delicate brush to dust the fans, with the hoover running close by so the tube can suck up the bad stuff. :)
