How to replace a garage lock?

I'm not sure where this belongs in all honesty! Long story short, I have lost my keys but have managed to replace my front door lock with a new one. The keys also had my garage key where I keep my Clio 200 and clubs. The keys went missing outside my house (from the lock, I'm a cretin) so it's obvious where the keys belong to.

If I can get hold of a garage lock (such as this: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/38580...r-Security/Garage-Door-Handle-Diamond-Spindle) how do I go about fitting it? At the moment my Clio is reversed right up against the garage so the door cannot be opened. Next door has a motion sensor and will be keeping an eye out too.

Drive yourself mad?

If you can't figure out two screws and replacing a single part you should be a touch concerned.

Or if not, phone someone to fix that too?

What door do you have?

If the existing lock is a T-handle like the one in the pic, then it is just a case of undoing the two screws, pulling the old one out and putting the new one in.

You may need to cut down the screws and the spindle, though.

If you cannot manage it yourself, call a garage door company rather than a locksmith and save yourself some money. I used to charge £25+vat to change a T-handle, they only cost about £4.

If it's not a T-Handle, most doors with eurolocks can be changed without the key by simply dismantling the rear mechanism, taking the old euro lock out, reassemble and fit the new one, the only other real common lock is the old westland/garador cabinet lock, which is just three screws.

Driving myself mad is an expression, but you knew that didnt you, i mean a man of your intelligence would know that.

I assumed he would need to start drilling out his old lock to gain access to fit the new one, my bad i was wrong there.

As he has his car parked as close to the door as possible, I'd guess it's unlocked :)

Or heres another conspiracy theory, he fears the man with the keys might come and unlock it, hence parking the car there covering the locked but useless door :)

If anyone happens to be passing Mayrhofen this week and finds a set of car keys could you be so kind as to return them please. I managed to leave them on the side of a mountain last week, oops.

(I was actually just going to get a new garage key cut but if a whole new lock and 2 new keys is only £13 I might as well do that)

Crisis over! I retraced my steps this morning and found the keys in the paper recycling bin. I get so much junk mail that it's normally the first thing I do when I get in.

I was able to open the garage from the inside and I was worried that the keys would fall in to the wrong hands and they would come back at a later date. I'm very pleased they turned up, it's an unbelievable hassle when loosing keys etc.
