How to restore Start Menu size

Windows XP, if someone adds a load of stuff to the left hand side of their Start menu it becomes really tall. If you then remove the items it doesn't go back to its original size. Is there any way to return it to its original size or at least tell it how tall it should be?

I just added lots of things to the left hand side to make it bigger. When I deleted them, the next time it loaded it returned to the original size.

Start -> Control Panel -> Taskbar and Start Menu -> Start Menu (tab) -> Under the programs sub section reduce the number to 6 (default), 0 (none) or what ever number you prefer. You can also if you like disable parts from the right hand side and turn off the options to show / hide the internet and email links at the top which are additional to the previous number (i.e. number + 2)

Hmm that's annoying because here it stays in its taller size.

Even more annoying on a colleague's computer because he has mini resolution on his monitor and it goes all the way up to the top of the screen. It means mucho mouse moving just to click progs open.
