How to run 2 monitors?

Hi guys just a quick one, currently using the onboard graphics on my system, so i decided to try dual monitor, which worked, 1 hdmi 1 vga, but the reason i want 2 monitors was 1 to run my games on and the other to have the likes of core temp etc.. running while im gamming.... how would i do this, as if i game on one, the other goes dark..

Change your game settings to run in windowed fullscreen. I think that should do it.
