How to run Tombraider Legend in next gen without SM3

Ok a lot of ppl have been asking how to do this, yes it is possible, but don't blame me if your frame rate falls through the floor!

Ok first use regedit and navigate to:
My computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Tomb Raider:Legend\Graphics

Change the value UseRefDevice to '1' and ensure that UseShader20 and UseShader30 are set to '0'

Start up the game,

You will now get and error message 'Failed to initialize Direct3D with current settings' Click 'Ok' and you will now get the Setup screen with the nextgen option unlocked.

Now press 'set to default' which switches the variable back to normal in regedit.

Choose the settings you want and start game.

Quickly Alt-Tab before you get to the menu sceen, go into regedit, refresh and change UseShader03 to '0' and UseShader02 to '1'

AltTab back to game to see Tombraider legends in Nextgen mode.

Warning: If you wish to play the game in Nextgen mode you will have to do this everytime, unless someone wishes to write a script program to do it for you?

I completed this game 2 days ago and in Pistol upgrades it says I dont have any, wtf is up with that?????

Sorry, i realise i am being completely dense - is this for people with older cards.

I kind of understand that Shader Model 3 is a new graphic rendering technology - will TR work on a 7800gt without needing to do this hack and run in next gen? Or must i wait 6months for a whole new line of cards before it will work as intended?

7800gt has SM3 so it should be just fine without

Can't believe x800 series don't support it

Everyone said it wouldn't matter for years, but I find myself wishing I'd gone for the nVidia cards.

Think you have to collect the secrets to unlock the upgrades.

I'm, actually quite angry, because I have a SLI MOBO, I could have bought an Nvidia 6600GT and SLIed it later on but I went with the X800GTO because of more pipes etc. But now I have all these bloody problems with the shader model :mad:

Am not happy about this, Oblivion doesnt let me do HDR, Far cry etc.
