How to safely access this window?

I need to paint the bedroom window but its directly above the overhang on the picture below, would it be safe to use a multi-purpose ladder with the top section bent 90 degrees and rested against the wall?

So I decided to tackle it like this.

Not exactly safe, and not being fantastic with heights I spent my entire time tensed up.

Still have several trips up there to undercoat and paint it

I fortunately only weigh like 9.5 stone and when I'm up there I tend to keep one foot on the leadwork!
