How to save video streams

How can you save Realplayer or windows media player streams to files onto hard disk? Ive not really used realplayer much, but have used media player quite a bit and still havent found a way to do this

I'd like to know the same for Windows Media Player. Want to watch the space shuttle EVAs this week which are happening while I'm at work.

PS - all legal and above board at least in my case - no DRM, very little copyright, and all for personal use.

i use net transport to download windows media streams (.asx files). the current version is shareware so i use a slightly older free version....

Just as well, because I'd have to remove this thread if you were.

no probs. i forgot to mention it installs itself as the default download manager in ie6. if you want to disable that, in ie6 goto tools>manage add ons and disable "NTIECatcher Class".

That is if you're using SP2. That option's not there in SP1.

Fortunately, there appears to be another way, and I use Firefox anyway which avoids the problem altogether.
