How to select Tyres?

Hi all,

Looking for some help selecting tyres...not really done much more then get cheapest before but now I have a better\bigger car I wanted some views...I have a Seat Ateca 4x4 TDI, its has on it currently Bridgestone Turanza 225/50 R18 W (95) on it, now looking at these on black circles these are £160 fitted, which seems a lot and if I'm going to spend that much should I get anther brand? Such as Michelin Primacy 4 or Pirelli P-Zero??

I do about 15-18k Miles a year and I guess comfort and noise are most important...

Any views would be good...
 
Unless you have a specific need for specialist tyres I would be inclined to stick with what was originally fitted. How old is the car? Are the Bridgestones original fitment?

Really not great at all, another internet hero tyre that is horribly over hyped. They achieve ok grip by using a soft compound so they don't last 5 minutes and are false economy over buying a good premium tyre.

Hmmm okay, I used to work at the biggest diesel performance tuning company in Europe as a mechanic. I loved those tyres, in my opinion.

Would love to find a better tyre in the wet than those but there isn't one, and in England it rains a lot.
 
Hmmm, ok so some mixed views! I have done around 22000 miles in car and fronts are down to 3mm and rear around 3.5...no idea if that's fast wear...I do break hard it seems...

Did not know Asda did tyres but for ones I have seem around same cost...

Put in your reg
Pick the most expensive tyre from Continental, Michelin or Goodyear including fitting in a garage near you.
Sit back and have a cup of tea.

Seems a great price to me and the tyres have been as good as the high ratings suggested. Worth the extra fiver over my previous Avons (which weren't bad either).

Awful tyre on something other than a lightweight car like an MX5. They are incredibly soft so wear very quickly and the side walls are soft giving a horrible feeling through the wheel. Had 4 on the wife's Fabia and was glad to see them wear out.

My Ateca is on Bridgestones and isnt all that bad, would consider them again. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in your size gets good reviews (http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Search/Size/225-50-18/Season/Summer/Order/Rating), after that I would go Primacy 4 (https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/michelin/primacy-4/225/50/R18/W/99/f?tyre=37380991).

I have them on my Fabia and think they are brilliant always predictable and gives me confidence. You can buy the XL version that has a stiffer sidewall. The worse part about them is wear levels as has been said but that reflects in the price which are usually cheaper than comparative tyres.
