How to sell a phone

I realise I can no longer sell phones on the mm unfortunately as that worked out great back in the olden days what with the trust system etc.

I'm on my 3rd listing on eBay with the first two being ruined by scammers. Can't believe that despite not allowing non UK members, two hijacked yank accounts were used to ramp up the cost of the phone and then asked me to ship to Indonesia.

Why don't eBay prevent it happening? It must be within their power.

So, anyway, are there any other avenues for getting rid of an XDA Exec or do I just have to persevere with the bay?

I've had a few problems but if I make them Paypal only and put a big sign saying "scammers - i know who you are" or something they usually don't bother.

Well, I'm relisting now and the paragraph saying not to bother is an even bigger font size so maybe it'll sell safely now.

had this while trying to sell a few phones in the past. Just make sure u say in description your not going to deal with them and usually your ok.

Putting warnings such as "I WILL NOT SHIP ABROAD" and anti scammer labels all over the auction won't work as hijackers usually use automated software for outbidding and sending their usual "I will issue bankers cheque for one gazillion boombatameese dollars, please send the change in pounds to my shippers" cobblers. UK only, immediate payment required, no bids from buyers with less than 10 feedback and paypal payments only. That should do it.

How do you do 10 feedback? Couldn't see that option.

In fact, how the hell am I supposed to trust anything, the last 5 XDA Exec sales are dominated by scammers, bidding over £700 and ruining all of the auctions.

The same names come up over and over.

eBay better sort these people out before they ruin it permanently.

10 feedback thing unfortunately requires you to keep an eye on auction. There is no option for it, so you basically specify in description that any bids from users with less than 10 feedbacks will be canceled unless they will contact you immediately after bidding with their name and uk phone number. Then you check auction twice a day and actually remove any bids that don't comply.
I tend to use BIN on more expensive items mainly because auctions turn out silly more and more often these days.

Another thing worth putting in "Sales disclaimer" is - if you are using Paypal only and immediate payment make it very clear that you will only accept payments from verified paypal accounts. A lot of people in phone section are scamming these days by using either phished ebay accounts or using instant payment options and then claiming back the payment on their credit card as unauthorized. In either case funds are withdrawn from your paypal days after you send the goods (even if you moved funds to your bank account) and it's a real hussle to get it fixed.

I agree selling popular items on ebay is harder and harder, not only because there is plenty of scammers around but also because other sellers often use shill accounts to punch your auction to redicilous levels few minutes before the end just so their "Buy it now" pricetags seem more reasonable. But then it happens everywhere around ebay - in buy section as well. How many times have you seen something very reasonably priced, you made sure you filtered items by "UK only" and then seconds before you decided to click on "Buy it now" button you notice the item is located in "Will Ship Everywhere via Fedex, United Kingdom", meaning the guy is in Hong Kong, States or god knows where and you will get shafted by customs, VAT and handling charges. Ebay don't care about those little things because let's face it - business is business, they get comission from sale, so whether it's scammy £700 sale of mobile, or people buying from Hong Kong and getting screwed by extra charges it doesn't matter - comission is comission.

Thought about relisting as BIN but have no benchmark for the phone value as all other auctions get hyped.

If anyone reads this and knows what a normal O2 XDA Exec should fetch, let me know.

Cheers, Andy
