i have a external hdd i want to use as a network drive.

my router doesnt have a usb port (virgin super hub) but i have a pc that is on all the time connected by wire to the router.

if i plug it into this how can i set it to a network driver rather than just a shared folder on the pc?

What difference ate you expecting? To the client a NAS appears in the same way as a shared folder.

As above, there really isn't any difference. You still need to share the external HDD the same way you would for a shared folder. The only difference is that on the client computers you map a network drive to the location of the external hdd, usually something like \\computer-thats-on-all-the-time-name\share-name-of-external-hdd

e.g. \\cokecan's_PC\shared_folder

i was hoping to have it appear like a pc does when you open up the network rather than having to go into the pc it is attached to.

just removes a step really, if it is going to be like a shared folder then they is no point really doing it.

if you map a network drive as I stated it will just show under your C drive in Computer (right click computer, select map network drive, choose a drive letter, enter the UNC path to it as per my examples)
