How do I set it up? I'm using HDMI to the monitor that has built in speakers. I disabled on board audio controller in the BIOS and uninstalled Nvidia HD audio driver? I'm using Windows 8. Do i have to connect the sound card SPDIF out to the motherboard?

first you need to connect the card to the speakers i assume you have an input on the screen for this do you?

i suppose i should have led with this however, whats the problem is it doing anything? or is it working and you just need help tweaking stuff?

I'm assuming you have connected the green output on the DGX to the line in on the monitor using a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable? If so, then is the DGX set to default in Windows sound properties?

I am assuming it must be, as you have disabled the onboard audio. It's possible that SPDIF (digital) is set to default. You need to have 'speakers' set as default.

Not that it matters, but I'll ask anyway. Why buy a sound card if you are using monitor speakers?

I read somewhere that Asus DGX disables something, if it detects HDMI? I change to DVI and there is sound coming out now????? I might be buying 5.1 headphones.

DGX doesn't detect HDMI, that will be Windows. It's setting HDMI to default it would appear. Although, that should not be possible if no HDMI audio drivers are installed. When you are using HDMI: If you go into Windows sound playback properties, can you see HDMI as set to default?
