how to share folders other than one in the public directory on vista

as the title really, i dont want to move things to the public directory all the time i want to share separate folders as you can do on xp?

find directory then right click and select share.... set as desired - should do the the trick assuming file sharing is all set up in firewall etc
might need to setup 'permissions' if you use different usernames.

Yeah, just right click on the folder and go on share. You can set a password for it etc if you want to. Then just map the network drive from the other PC and you're sorted.

thanks guys, i did try that before i read this last night and it seemed that the only sharing options where to share with other usernames? i clicked on learn other ways to share or something then it said about the public folder.

thanks guys, i did it with a secondary drive and that worked but id like to share my desktop and i dont think it will allow me? can someone have a right click on it and see if you got the option please? the only options i see are to share with another user login on the pc?

I get the option to Share when I click on the Desktop folder within my Username in explorer, the user option is just a reminder that the share can only be accessed by using a valid username and password, so you can't make the share a free for all.

you can share 'any' folder as long as you set it up. I've shared my 'personal' folders over my net without issue on vista.

to setup a share so it doesn't need a username/pass like with xp simple filesharing you need to disable password protect of shares, then when you share the folder add the everyone group to the permissions.
