How to share specific folder between Win 7 and 8.1?

Hi,

I am wanting to share a folder on my Win 8.1 machine just between that computer/user and my Win 7 machine. I have found all the stuff online for creating a share but when you get to the point of selecting which users to share with of course I can only see the users that are on the Win 8.1 machine and not my username on the Win 7 pc. Any ideas on how to do this?

Pretty sure my shared folders (win 8) just showed up on win 7 machine if set on same domain, homegroup, security settings etc. Mind you it was a while back.

If not you can add users (win 7 username) to your share list via the permissions section, that might be worth a try.

are you trying to share the folder on your win 8 box to your win 7 or the other way round?

are you using simple sharing or advanced? sounds silly but ive always had an easier time using the advanced tab
