I'm looking for a solution to place under doorways to stop my cats scratching the carpet (which I am going to replace in a couple of months) without it looking ghastly. I've seen this video on ewwtube and it looks pretty good but it's in America only. Has any pet owner found something similar here or a better solution?

Please no kill the cat with fire jokes. :p

Put the cats in a bin. See 'ewwtube' for guides on the matter.

(No sorry can't help you. My only other serious suggestion was cut their paws off. But I don't think that will useful as the blood will dirty the carpets.)

Buy a scratching post.

When cats scratch anything else spray them with water

also cats should have their nails trimmed on a regular basis which likely makes them not want to scratch as much.

this generally involves a blanket over the cats head and a lot of hissing unless your cat is used to it

He says they love sisal doormats, sisal rope is the same rope on scratching posts looks like you can buy them in the uk as they are not cat specific

As said above, scratching post with cat nip put on once a week, just trimmed my cats nails today:)

This method has reduced my carpets getting wrecked by a long way.

we used a squirty bottle, scratching post with cat nip and nail clippers.

non of them worked, he would just scratch until we approached and leg it.

i think he has eventually grown out of it and now only ruins the couch.

i think clipping the nails helps the most.

If you've got this far letting your cat scratch the carpet/furniture without providing a scratching post and using a water spray to discourage them, then it's going to be VERY hard to break the habit.

Does the cat randomly scratch anywhere or just at the doorway when you lock it in a room?

2 scratch posts. 1 in the room you spend the most time in. Living room usually. Second near to where they sleep/cat tray. Works great.

Also any of the Repel sprays. Work for a few months per spray.

Or let them outside more. Cats will claw tree's if any nearby.

Have a look at soft paws. Our vet recommended them. They fall off as the nail grows and our cat didn't seem bothered wearing them.

This is the reason I will never have cats, I loved having them growing up but I've never visited a house with them where they haven't wrecked something and I like all my furniture.
