How to stop eating?

Is Weetabix a clean carbs?

It's certainly not the worst thing you could eat by any means, but think what you are getting out of it - how much protein is in there?

But really, you want to be avoiding excess sugars (chocolate, sweets, fruits like grapes etc) and processed non-wholegrain foods (white bread, white rice, crackers, crisps... this covers a lot of things ). The best source is probably from green vegetables and if you are a true sadist you will stick only to these. In reality, that's extremely difficult for most people.

Stick to wholegrain food stuffs (in particular limited quantities of, for example, brown rice), green veg, beans and lentils.

I'll make you feel a little better - I got a 37" waist. It was 39 though. And the reduction came because I completely eliminated junk food. No "fun" days, no "treat" days just stopped cold. Also I eat much more fruit n veg.

I now eat regularly & exercise 7 hrs/week. I was 90.5kgs and now Im 83kgs. Doesnt seem like much but Im gunning for 75kgs and a 35 incher waist.

Quitting the junk (jams, cookies, chips, crisps, pies, burgers, pizzas, pop, candy, margarine, bread etc) has made a massive difference. It was not easy, oh no it was not. I had cravings so bad that it was like a drug withdrawal. But I figured that I needed to quit putting trash into my system and thinking that way helped.

Think of your body as an engine - why are you putting junk into it? Eat to live, not the other way around :)

It will not be easy but if you have mental discipline and determination you can do it. Also (and this is something Im still bad at doing) drink lots of water. Carry a bottle and keep sipping.

I think the problem isn't so much what I eat (which is pretty good), but just that I've gotten into the habit of reaching for food at totally inappropriate times, like late at night before I go to bed. For some reason that always strikes me as a good time to make a sandwich.

It's gotten habitual now. Always have a mini-banquet before bed :p I did say I have no willpower, so changing this isn't going to be easy :/

Yea but why are you so hungry before bed? Do you have a good breakfast, lunch & dinner?

And by breakfast I mean porridge with no sugar. No "fry up" which tastes SO good but oh yea...all that greasy gunk aint doin you any favours! Try poached egg as well. The net is crawling with healthy recipes.

Aim for small changes, gradual changes. And I know this sounds stupid but keep a food diary. Each time you eat something write it down. Measure your waist & take your weight once a month and note that down too. Once you see the numbers change you will get even more motivated! If you want to get your nerd on you can log all this in a spreadsheet. That way you can generate graphs - and when you see that weight-line & waist-line start to slope downward.... :)

Unfortunately, it does involve willpower. In the past year, I've gone from a 41" waist to 34", losing 30KG in the process. I never thought it'd be possible, and if I can do it, anyone can. Myfitnesspal is your friend ;)

EDIT: PROTIP: When you're hungry, clean your teeth ;) You get nice teeth, and lose the craving for a while ;)

Wow 30kg well done mate, massive loss! :D

I find routine meals help.

Also don't go shopping on an empty stomach or you'll just end up buying rubbish!

This is v true! An easy trap to fall into.

Get a friend to drive you out to the woods and to promise you that they'll give you a tenner for each day you survive. When you come back you'll be a lot skinnier. Perhaps too skinny. Perhaps you won't come back. If that's the case, well then you shouldn't have put on so much weight, should you? ;)

Only allow yourself to eat carbohydrates twice a day, of no more than 40g servings each. i.e. 40g pasta, 40 uncooked porridge oats, 40 uncooked rice etc. So only 80g of carbs a day. Carbs from veg are fine.

You will struggle to not lose weight in this situation so long as you don't absolutely PLOUGH through the fatty treats (as most treats have carbs of some form, including sugars)

This is the simplest thing I can think of for someone who wants an easy solution.

Just be sure you never get hungry. Don't overeat, but don't every have your stomach rumble. When it does your body basically is starting to conserve energy, aka make you fat.

Meh all in all OP don't worry about it too religiously. You can make progress without being a total sadist. I doubt anyone is going to find you attractive or not over a belt size.

The one tip I would give is to simply not buy ****, which immediately eliminates all dietary problems - its impossible to snack on bread if you don't have any.

I went for a 40 minute cycle at the gym and since my last post in this thread I've had 4 weetabix, oops *shrug* :p

At least you know it's all in your head :)

Get aids....

Warning this was south park advice.

That or drink lots of water, water is the solution to all of lives problems. Also don't drink alcohol (or at least try to limit it), that'd bad. Try to limit fizzy drinks, i.e. some times it simpler to just reduce intake instead of cut it out completely, so instead of no coke never, just one can a day, makes you think about when you want it and why.

Do a daily amount of exercise too, it can be easy to just not.

You are not a slave to your impulses (despite what the teenage you thinks)

I just stopped buying trousers that were bigger than my current size. Nothing like sitting in a pair of trousers that are too tight all day to motivate you to eat better/exercise more.

Only fattys buy bigger trousers.

OP, I went from 36" to 30" (I got into 29") at one point but it was not comfortable ! lol

Just stop eating ! Once you get used to it, and your stomach shrinks a bit you will eat less.

If you had to eat, eat a carrot.

roast some carrots and eat them later, the taste of them is sooo good.
