i used to have a netgear dg834g before moving over to a wgr614v7 and in that time the router never used to give any sort of reply when pinging it.

however recently its giving a reply back when pinging it from a) machine from in the network and b) from work.

double checked the setting which tells the router to respond to ping and its definately unchecked, i even reset to factory defaults incase that was it, same problem.

any ideas where to start looking?

Are you pinging the WAN address from inside or the LAN Address.

Not knowing the router try configuring an access list on the WAN interface to deny all ICMP traffic inbound.

i get replies when pinging on a machine on the network and also on a machine at work.

not sure how to deny ICMP traffic on the router, cant telnet onto it either.

There must be an option within the firewall rules to block ICMP, but blocking ICMP entirely is a bad idea and blocking ICMP echo requests is pointless...
