how to stop washer jets freezing up?

Dont use water.

You need to buy some Screen Wash that has a low freezing point.

Halford sell 5L bottles (3 for 2) for about £3.99 each, these are great in this sort of weather. The guide on the bottle actually tells you not to dilute as well, as this means it will freeze in the pipes.

/edit - £4.99 for 5L - 3 for 2.

I use that at 1 in 10 and have never had any problems.

isnt the main problem ice on the bonnet freezing over the nozzles as opposed to the fluid in the pipes freezing...saying that, i use standard premixed stuff and rarely have my jets stop working (unless completely covered in ice/snow)

This seems to be the issue. I have quite a thick concentrate in my washer resevoir, should be protected down to past -15 degrees, but the washer nozzles themselves still get clogged with frost and ice. Try giving them a quick wipe over in the morning while you defrost the car, it might help.

i use two of the innocent bottle beanies on my washer jets, like these:

unfortunately i forgot them last night and by washer jets were just foaming slightly onto the bonnet - i could hardly see anything untill i was about 10 min from work :(

The Halfords stuff is rubbish. I used it @ 50/50 a while back and it froze so once the temps rose i used it all up then put it in neat and its still freezing .
