Hi everyone.

I'm currently writing a report on the Morris Worm, I have all my research set and know what I need to write for the main body of the report. But I haven't a clue on how to structure my Introduction.

I don't want to give too much information about the worm as that's what the other sections would be for. But I need to come up with at most 600 words for an introduction and all I've written so far is around 150 words about the creator, when the worm broke out and what it's main actions were.

Can anyone help me out here.

Thanks

INTRODUCTION

Now, this is the story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air

In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some b-ball outside of school
When a couple of guys
Who were up to no good
Startin making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'

The introduction usually explains WHAT you are going to achieve. The report format I'm used to writing usually has a very brief run down of your findings in the summary.

Introdution structure example:

"This report is a study of the Morris Worm, and blah blah blah, with the following information:

-The Morris Worm's origin

-It's creator

-It's effects

etc. etc. "

Expand on the points, and word them so that they tie in with the body of the report.

Your summary should really include the information you've written for your current intro. The summary usually goes:

"This report is a study of the Morris Worm, and my findings are:

-The creator was a bloke somewhere who studied at XXXXX place

-The release Morris Worm resulted in the death of billions

-The Morris Worm was a bit annoying and caused $XX,XXX damage

Brief paragraph of commentsblah bla blah"

Basically the summary consists of succinct bullet points relating to the key findings of your report, and is supported by your conclusion.

The standard order or presentation of a report is:

-Title page
-Contents
-Summary (key findings)
-Intro (main goals)
-Report and analysis (main body or text with all technical findings and calculations)
-Conclusion (how it happened, what techniques were used etc in as plain text as possible with technical reference if necessary)
-Discussion (what if, what else, how else)
-References
-Appendices

Sorry for getting carried away, had this drummed into me over the last 3 years! :p
