How to supply feed to USB module from 240v ring main/lighting circuit?

Hi all,

We're thinking about redecorating our bedroom soon, and I would love it if we could replace the lamps on our bedside tables with wall lamps, and have a switch next to the bed. Seems simple, and straightforward.

I was then thinking, maybe I could use a single gang euro/grid module set up with a 25mm switch (for the light), and a 25mm USB module for charging my phone at night.

So, that got me thinking, how would I wire that all up. I'd be using a 5 amp FCU (fused connection unit) to step the amperage down from the 13A 240V socket below the bed to feed the new wall light (and switch), but I'd need to step down the voltage (and possibly amperage) further for the USB grid module.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Many thanks in advance,

Edward

I know this job isn't notifiable, but it would make sense to ask a qualified electrician. Screwfix have a decent forum that I have used in the past.

All the ones i've ever fitted have a Line and Neutral termination in the back of them. Just loop it off the load side of your FCU?

So I’m thinking of using the euro grid modules, rather than plug sockets with built in USB sockets.

I’m assuming that the sockets with USB ports have some sort of transformer in them for the USB ports?
