Well, it was getting too costly therefore I would like to switch to Pipex.

I went on Pipex's website to sign up, however they ask for a "Mac address" which can be found from my supplier.

Do I Just ring them up (BT), and say I would like my mac code...then they pass it over, then sign up for pipex, do I not need to cancel my Bt broadband or anything? Will they automatically cancel it when I give my Mac code to Pipex, also when I do transfer how long to actually get me back up and running with pipex.

Will I NEED to use the supplied router from Pipex, or can I still use my Bt ADSL modem.

I' m asking as I do not want to be "Buggered" with no internet for weeks on end.

Thanks for reading.

yea pipex will inform bt to cancel that account once your new account with pipex is registered. it take 3-5 days roughly to migrate i believe.

Yes, more or less.
You get the MAC from the ISP you're leaving (aka the losing ISP), and when you sign up there should be an option to give the code to ISP you're moving to (aka the winning ISP).
The losing ISP should then be told when you migrate.

Will I NEED to use the supplied router from Pipex, or can I still use my Bt ADSL modem.

Nope. If the BT-supplied modem will allow you to change the username, it'll work.

also when I do transfer how long to actually get me back up and running with pipex.

Should be about 7 days from request to migration, but you'll still be with the losing ISP then. When you're actually migrated, you'll find either a) the new login will start working (and when you successfully use the new login the old one stops) or b) you'll get kicked off (and the new login will start working).

There's zero communication between winning and losing ISPs though.

I would also contact your Bank or Credit Card that was being used for your old account and make sure they also put a stop on future payments. Some companies can be a bit slack in that department and keep taking your cash after you have left (AOL is a classic for this....)
