How to tell a good overclocker CPU ? (i7 2600k)

I was wondering how do you tell if the cpu you got is a good overclocker or a dud ?

Asking this because i know that Q6600's were pretty much determined by their VID. What about i7 ?

My new i7 is idling at 33c @4400 [email protected]. Loaded with prime95 all 8 threads max out at 56 and 63 (pairs of cores).

If i set to 4500 at the same vcore it's instant crash/reboot if tried with prime95 (8 threads)...

Is my cpu a good overclocker ? (mind i hadnt much time to play about trying to puch it...)

Board is MSI Z68A-GD55-B3 and Kingston HyperX Genesis (4x4gb).

Anyone with similar setup to share settings with me ?

I don't think there is any concrete way of telling your CPU is a cherry. Best way I've found is just to compare what other people can overclock to vs vcore.

Some motherboards also have a lot of impact on overclocking ability so take this into account too.

Find a MSI Z68A-GD55-B3 owners club and read through the overclocking posts....

Yes as Chris said, the motherboard is definitely a factor. There is anecdotal evidence that the P67 chipset overclocks better than the Z68. Also the number of power phases your motherboard has. I don't think the MSI is very favourable in this regard. I suspect with a better motherboard it would overclock better.
