How to tell when brake discs need changing?

One removes a road wheel and examines said disk for evidence of scoring or a large lip at the edge. The disc will have a minimum service thickness which is often stamped onto the disk center somewhere, otherwise it should be shown in a service manual if you have one,

Or, like 99% of the population, you deny any knowledge of consumable items until your car fails the MOT for it :D
