Hi guys

Kinda urgent this one, my input jack on the guitar is going loose. Its the long, cylindrical type jack... the sort that covers the entire plug unlike the sort you get on most guitars where you can just squeeze the contacts together. My question to you is this - how do I tighten the contacts?

This.

It must undo, otherwise it could not have had wires soldered onto it

Look at the picture. The wires solder onto the big bit and the little pin sticking out the end. What I'm saying is that the grip on the cable inside the barrel is poor and needs tightening.

Bad news - you will have to replace it.
You can't get into them and your only chance is a powerful magnifying glass, torch and very thin screwdriver to see if you can prise the contact out.
They are readily available at an Electronics Hight Street store.

While you're at it buy the normal type and see if that will fit instead.

Thought so.

I buy these things every 6 months or so and its driving me crazy. The body is too thick to put a normal jack in - thinking of having a shop drill it out  its for the best...

Every six months.. what in God's name do you do to your guitar

Plug it in? It doesn't cut out every 6 months, but it gets to the stage where the slightest of pressure on the jack causes it to cut out. So when the cable hits your leg... it goes

Right, well after having to decide against using my new wireless unit due to the funny jack, I've taken my guitar to a luthier today to have it drilled out  and a normal jack putting in. I hope he doesn't balls it up as it will all be worth it.
