Hi all

I'm travelling to London on 28/9/12, arriving Kings X 00:57. I'll then be walking to Euston and making a bus journey from there. Before I make this journey I need to top up my PAYG Oyster Card. However, I can't seem to figure out how to do this online as it's asking me to select a station for me to 'collect' my purchase from! All I want to do is stick another fiver on it now so that I have the funds available to make the journeys I need to make while in London. Can anyone advise where I'm going wrong?

Thanks

M

Pop in to Euston Underground and top it up at a machine before catching your bus?

The top up procedure needs to be activated at a station, which is fine if you're getting the tube, but you can't 'start it' from getting on a bus.

It says so on the topup page for the Oyster Card:
Hover over the 'What if I mainly use the bus?' link.

You can do it online, but you'll have to touch in at the nominated station - so that would have to be the first station at which you "touch in" at.

Might as well just go and do it at the machine.

Oysters store their balance on the card so it's impractical to simply buy online then pick up from any Underground station (the station you choose will update your new balance as soon as you tap in.

There are top-up points at all stations and most cornershops in London. Couldn't be easier.

You can't do a totally online top-up. This is because the balance is stored on the card itself, therefore you can't top-up remotely.

You need to either:
- top up online and 'collect' at a station by making a journey. Not possible if you're starting your journey by bus.
- top-up from a shop or station in person

Yay for autotopup... until your card gets stolen that is... :p

Then you ring up and get it cancelled. :p I lost mine had credit restored to the day before loss and a new one sent which arrived the following day.

I wonder if the word "nicked" appears on the ticket machine when one has been cancelled. :D

Kings Cross still has plenty of staff around in the early hours, so you can easily get help if you can't find a machine or know what to do.
