I stupidly selected windows notepad to always open a file that has a .fx file extensions, and now notepad will always open this file. Im not sure what the default program was that was original assigned to this .fx file extension. How do i change this back to to the default file type in Windows 8??

In W7 it's under Default Programs in CP, likely to be the same in W8.

There's no default program to open that file though.

You dont need to worry as its not a directly accessed file its a resorce for programs that will not care about your association.

If you right click and "open with" and use default programs options (or do it through control panel) then usually whatever windows default is will be one of the programs listed.

On mine .fx is "FX Source" "Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 for Windows Desktop" but that will only apply if you have Visual Studio installed.

I dont see an option default option, only lists notpad now. If i select different program then it gives me a list of other programs, but seeing as this .fx file was an unknown type to start off with im not sure how i get it back to that.

The file was to do with the MAME Emulator btw

it really does not matter and it's not even worth thinking about.

i suspect you could trawl the registry and delete the relevant entries but please don't do this unless you are very familiar with using regedit. i'm guessing you're not otherwise you wouldn't be asking. :p
