Hi friendly folks, I have made the mistake of agreeing to help a family member build a good pc for non gaming tasks.

I picked the components having read up on am4 compatibility with 5700g processors.

Supposedly the msi b550m pro works with the 5700g but it didn’t work, it has the cpu led white light lit.
Bios upgrade I thought but then realised how do I get to the bios to upgrade the bios? It has no bios flash button like my x570 has.

So my options are strip out my 3700x and use that along with my gfx card to update the bios which will be a pita or send the motherboard back and get one with a bios flash button to use a usb stick.

Am I missing something simple here?

Thanks for reading.

It does look like the only way to update the bios is putting a supported cpu in there.

There's no way of doing it without the button unfortunately.

I did have a quick read through the manual (as I'm sure you did) and there's not even any reference to flashing the bios without actually using the bios options.

thanks for the reply mate :) will my 3700x even boot to bios screen. All the Manual says is that it works on ryzen 3rd gen.
Might try and get the b550m a pro vdh as that has the button.

Yeah your cpu should get you to the bios, but as you say its's an inconvenience doing that. Although so is sending bits back and ordering a new board.

It's down to you what inconvenience you would prefer.

I'm quite impatient and would probably stick the 3700x in there to get the bios updated.
