How to use Hibernate On Windows 7 Please?

how do you get Hibernate to work properly in Windows 7 please ?

had a video encode running this morning, pc at full load (all cores at 100%) - yet went into hibernate after the set 90 minutes even though was still running video encode

is that how its meant to work ? makes it useless/un-usable?

what am I doing wrong please?

yes I could turn off hibernate but I want PC to go into hibernation when not (genuinely) used for a period of time

Hibernation doesn't mean keep running applications in the background. Hibernation means a low powered state so it wakes up faster.

AFAIK..... only OSX Lion can now perform hibernation tasks properly.

mm thanks - doesn't sound promising

I don't want them to continue running I just want windows to have enough intelligence that if the PC is doing something (100% cpu load can't be difficult to detect) - it doesn't go into hibernation !

That's not hibernation mode, that sounds like disk power down. You can find that in advanced power settings somewhere to turn this off.
